Gambian Scholarship Students

In 2004, Helen Wilcockson asked Mal Cowgill, the Principal of Central, whether the kindness could be repaid to the Gambia and it was then the yearly scholarship programme was born. Every year, now the top two students from ITTOG are chosen to come and study travel and tourism in the UK.

Lamin Bojang was the first and when he completed he stayed for 2 years and then completed teacher training and undertook work experience within the college.

Maimuna Jatta followed on and did the same. Kebba Bajinka has just graduated and is undertaking a degree at Loughborough College in travel and tourism. Adama Nyang came next and completed with DDD and now has a management role in The Kariba hotel and Adama came with Fatou Touray whom has stayed in Nottingham to undertake a HND.

The programme for the scholarships to the UK has changed now, in that the two best students chosen by the Gambian and UK team together, from The Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia will win the scholarship and will also complete teacher training.
