Academies

The impact of Central College Nottingham is not just limited to Post-16 learning, the College is an Academy Sponsor with the aim of "Transforming Local Learning".

The College created South Nottingham College Academy Trust in June 2011 and has a multiple funding agreement with the Department for Education. It opened its first academy, South Nottinghamshire Academy, in September 2011 in Radcliffe-on-Trent to the east of Nottingham. Top Valley Academy, in the north of Nottingham, opened in September 2012. It is the College and the Trust’s ambition to transform local learning through these Academies. This can take many forms but fundamentally requires high quality academic and vocational pathways starting early in compulsory education to ensure all young people receive the core education necessary to access further and higher education or the world of work. This ambition supports the economic success of the City of Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire to the benefit of everyone living and working in the area.

Both Academies are experiencing a strong improvement in standards, and both Academies have been selected for the government’s “Priority Schools Building Programme” which will see rebuilding of their current estates over the next 3-5 years. Both Academies have a Local Governing Body consisting of staff, parents and other members who work closely with the respective Academy on standards and inclusion. The Trust Board consists of some Local Governing Body members plus Central College Nottingham Governors and staff. The Trust Board retains the oversight of the strategic direction of the Sponsor, and offers support to its Academies in varying forms depending on its progress and achievement.

The College and Trust is committed to continuing to engage with conurbation secondary schools who present:

  • Geographic proximity
  • Shared curriculum specialisms
  • A similar ethos to Central College Nottingham with an equal commitment to academic and vocational provision with an overriding focus on academic standards and inclusion
  • A willingness to become an Academy by either joining the SNCAT or federating through formal collaboration with joint governance and management arrangements

South Nottinghamshire Academy is located in Radcliffe on Trent and serves Radcliffe on Trent, Cotgrave and surrounding villages.
