Central is now officially a ‘good’ college.
The College was awarded grade 2s in every area by inspectors who confirmed that it has made significant progress since its last inspection in 2014.
Ofsted reported the reasons the College is good include:
- Managers have developed a range of programmes that is very well matched to regional and national priorities
- Staff provide a broad range of additional activities that help expand the horizons of learners and apprentices and develop their personal and social skills
- Safeguarding practice is exemplary
Central College was formed in 2012 and enrols around 20,000 students each year at over ten sites across the City. It offers courses from entry level through to degree level courses for school leavers and apprentices but also has a considerable adult education offer and works with around 1200 local businesses providing employee training. Recent results indicate success rates have improved year on year and 93% of students go onto employment or into further study after completing their course. Ofsted noted that students have very positive attitudes to learning and are well prepared for progression into work and are equipped well for progression to university.
