Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering (Level 3)

Course outline

We’ll help you develop more advanced skills in a range of engineering areas, to give you a flexible qualification covering electrical, maintenance and mechanical engineering.

You will be mainly based at your workplace, coming into College one day a week to complete the underpinning knowledge and portfolio building to compile the evidence you need for your qualification.

Depending on your chosen career path, you’ll take one of the following routes:

  • Engineering maintenance
  • Engineering toolmaking
  • Electrical/electronic engineering
  • Engineering technical support
  • Mechanical manufacturing engineering
  • Installation and commissioning engineering

You will also study English and maths.*

English and maths - skills for your future
Employers and universities really value skills in English and maths. So, building on your existing knowledge of these subjects will help you prepare for your future career or further study. *If you are aged 16-18 and have not yet achieved GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C or above/grade 4 or above don’t worry - we’ll support you with the right lessons to increase your confidence in these essential employability skills.

Enterprise skills
Our courses are designed to help you achieve your ambitions, whether you plan to go on to a higher level of study or start a career. Employability and study skills will be included to help you develop the broad skills required by industry. They will vary from course to course and are designed to meet local and national employer needs.

Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering

Duration

24-42 months

Level Level 3
Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement
  • You will also need GCSEs at grades A* to C/9 to 4 or equivalent in English Language and Maths. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.

Teaching & assessment

You will be assessed in the workplace for your practical skills and will produce portfolios of evidence to show your understanding of the knowledge required.

Progression
  • Higher apprenticeship or HNC in a related area

  • Fabrication, welding and sheet metal
Additional information

You will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when using tools/machinery.
