If you’re keen to kick-start your career in the sport and leisure industry while earning a wage, this programme could be just what you’re looking for.
The majority of this course will be carried out within the workplace. This could be within a school, or coaching sport in an educational environment. Your classes will be delivered at the college.
The course consists of:
- NVQ Level 3 (Physical Education and School Sport)
- Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
- Other industry/coaching qualifications as directed by the employer

English and maths - skills for your future
Employers and universities really value skills in English and maths. So, building on your existing knowledge of these subjects will help you prepare for your future career or further study. *If you are aged 16-18 and have not yet achieved GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C or above/grade 4 or above don’t worry - we’ll support you with the right lessons to increase your confidence in these essential employability skills.
Our courses are designed to help you achieve your ambitions, whether you plan to go on to a higher level of study or start a career. Employability and study skills will be included to help you develop the broad skills required by industry. They will vary from course to course and are designed to meet local and national employer needs.

Advanced Apprenticeship in Sport (Physical Education and School Sport) Level 3
You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.
You will also need 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C/9 to 4 or equivalent in English Language and Maths. Some employers may require additional qualifications depending on the role.
Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.
All applicants will be required to undertake an assessment in English and maths prior to enrolling.
|Teaching & assessment||
You will be regularly assessed in the workplace and will produce an e-portfolio of evidence to show your understanding of the knowledge required. Assessments will include a combination of practical observations, verbal discussions, written assignments and case studies.
On completion you may secure a permanent position with your employer. If you wish to continue studying you will need good tutor and employer recommendations. It is possible to progress onto one of the following:
