Anxiety Management — Part-time
Course outline
The focus of this course is to gain knowledge and skills to recognise and manage symptoms of anxiety.
This is facilitated by discussing the symptoms of anxiety and by exploring anxiety management techniques in a supportive environment.
The course is aimed at anyone who experiences low to moderate anxiety and anyone who supports adults who experience low to moderate anxiety symptoms.
It will consist of discussion of the symptoms of anxiety. There will be opportunities to learn and practice anxiety management techniques.
On this course, you will learn:
- To understand the purpose and mechanism of anxiety.
- How to recognise the physical symptoms of anxiety.
- How to recognise what triggers anxiety.
- How to challenge negative thoughts arising from anxiety and common thinking errors.
- To practice, understand and demonstrate knowledge of anxiety management techniques such as distraction techniques, environmental focus, relaxation and breathing techniques.
- How to recognise and manage panic attacks.
- To understand the relationship between stress and anxiety.
- To engage in social interaction by working within a group setting.
- To understand and demonstrate non-judgemental and positive attitudes towards mental health.
- To recognise when a person should seek professional support for anxiety.
- How to access support for anxiety and mental health.
You will achieve objectives by taking part in group activities.
You will be invited to practice techniques learnt in the classroom between sessions.
