Course outline

This course is perfect if you enjoy science-related subjects, have a keen interest in science and want to progress into a career in a science-related industry.

You’ll learn about scientific principles, biology, chemistry, physics, science field work and forensic science.

You can expect to study in our modern laboratories with friendly, knowledgeable and experienced tutors. Progress your literacy and numeracy skills whilst gaining a qualification to recognise your achievement.

This course is based at the City Campus (Maid Marian Way).

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) (Functional Skills L1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills L2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above.

Teaching & assessment

You’ll also complete a portfolio of work based on continual assessment throughout the year.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College onto one of our Level 3 programmes in Applied Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Forensics and Health Sciences. Future career options include nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, forensics, paramedic, criminologist or laboratory scientist.
