Course outline

This course is perfect if you see yourself working in the fascinating world of 21st century science. This course can prepare you for further study or to get a job or apprenticeship in the health and science professions.

You’ll learn about the living body, science in medicine, biology and our environment, as well science and nutrition. You’ll also learn about the vast range of career options in the medical profession.

You can expect hands-on practical learning combined with a good grasp of theory. You’ll be taught by subject specialists in well-equipped laboratories and you’ll gain an insight into real bio-medical facilities and cutting edge laboratory techniques through trips and visits.

This course is based at the City Campus (Maid Marian Way).

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (Medical)

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) (Functional Skills L1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills L2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study on a Level 3 programme at Nottingham College, either progressing further into a medical specialism or within our Level 3 health sciences or forensics programmes. With a Level 3 you can go on to degree-level study in a range of fields including medicine, radiography, microbiology, biochemistry and follow up with a career in one of a whole host of specialist professions in the medical sector.
