Accounts/​Finance Assistant — Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2)

Apprenticeship outline

This Level 2 course will cover the principles of accountancy and is ideal if you have never worked in or studied accountancy before.

You’ll learn the principles of accountancy, i.e. double-entry bookkeeping, and simple costing and you will have a greater awareness from working in a business environment.

You will cover:

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Using Accounting Software
  • Work Effectively in Finance

An Accounts or Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business.

The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting a finance or accounting team with junior accounting duties. These can vary depending on the team structure and size of business. The Accounts/Finance Assistant can work in almost any sector of accounting and a wide variety of employers.

The potential job role could be:

  • Accounts Assistant
  • Assistant Bookkeeper
  • Business Accounts Administrator
  • Data Input Clerk
  • Junior Cashier

An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include:

  • General administration and accounts support
  • Processing invoices
  • Raising purchase orders
  • Billing and invoicing
  • Querying any pricing errors
  • Bank or Statement reconciliations

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain Accounts/Finance Assistant level 2 standard apprenticeship as well as AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

Study Method – Online

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our online model.

There will be fortnightly online workshops and other online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop - meaning apprentices can fit their study around work commitments, minimising disruption in the workplace. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes and is accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Exercises, interactive case studies and analytical tools help to enhance the learning experience further.

This modern, flexible approach to apprenticeship training empowers learners, minimises disruption to employers, and delivers tangible results in the workplace.

Accounts or Finance Assistant - Level 2

Duration

12 - 15 months

Entry requirements
  • You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.
  • You will also need GCSEs at grades 9–3 (A*–D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9–4 (A*–C). Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) or above. Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

Adults who are aged 19+ with appropriate industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

All applicants will need to undertake an assessment in English and Maths prior to enrolling.

Teaching & assessment

You will work with an assessor to create a portfolio of work over the learning period and on completion take the final exam ’In-Tray Test’ before completing an End-Point Assessment that consists of 60 minute structured interview of ten questions supported by a portfolio of evidence summary.
