Course outline

If you’re looking for a career in the world of business and want to learn more about the vast options available including marketing, accounting and HR, this course is for you. It will equip you with work-related, practical skills to help you progress and improve your knowledge.

This is a practical, work-related course. By completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands, you will learn about the business world. There are 18 units and you will study half of the units each year.

The course covers:

  • The business environment
  • Business resources
  • Introduction to marketing
  • Business accounting
  • Management accounting
  • Relationship marketing
  • Developing teams in business
  • Recruitment and selection

You will also study English and maths.*

English and maths – skills for your future
Employers and universities really value skills in English and maths. So, building on your existing knowledge of these subjects will help you prepare for your future career or further study. *If you are aged 16-18 and have not yet achieved GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C or above/grade 4 or above don’t worry - we’ll support you with the right lessons to increase your confidence in these essential employability skills.

Enterprise skills
Our courses are designed to help you achieve your ambitions, whether you plan to go on to a higher level of study or start a career. Employability and study skills will be included to help you develop the broad skills required by industry. They will vary from course to course and are designed to meet local and national employer needs.

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C /9 to 4 including English Language and maths*
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification at a Merit grade including GCSE English Language and maths* at grade A* to C/9 to 4

*If you do not have both GCSE English Language and Maths at A* to C/9 to 4, we may accept one of them at grade D/grade 3 in addition to your 5 GCSEs at A* to C/9 to 4. Functional Skills may be accepted instead of GCSE English Language and/or maths. Functional Skills Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE grade D/grade 3 and Level 2 to GCSE grade C/grade 4.

Adults who are aged 19+ with relevant industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply. You will need to complete an English and maths assessment to determine the right course and support for you.

Teaching & assessment

There are externally assessed exams and assignments including making presentations, reports, poster presentations and role play.

Progression

You may progress onto higher education programmes including:

  • HND in Business
  • Foundation degrees in related subjects
  • Employment in industry
