Course outline

Perfect if you are looking to progress into a technical construction or construction management career and want to achieve qualifications which will enable you to study at degree-level either at college, university or through a higher apprenticeship.

You’ll learn about a range of technical construction principles and techniques involved in planning and developing for the built environment and you’ll gain a solid understanding of the complexities of working within regulations such as health and safety and welfare legislation. You’ll also learn about emerging technologies within the sustainable construction, clean tech and low carbon industries.

You can expect to study towards a qualification which is equivalent to three A Levels and which blends practical learning with theory-based research and assignments. You’ll cover the various industries that make up this sector such as surveying, civil engineering, building control and building services, building technologies and about the various materials used in major construction projects.

This course is based at the Basford Hall Campus.

BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 in Construction and Built Environment

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths. You can also gain a place by having a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and maths GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C). Relevant industry experience may be considered.

Progression

Choose to follow with degree-level study on one of our HND/HNC programmes in construction and construction management related programmes, or perhaps onto a higher apprenticeship or employment civil engineering or building services engineering.
