Course outline

This new programme has been specifically designed for you if you’re progressing from an Advanced Apprenticeship in a craft area, or if you’ve got significant work experience in the industry and want to become a construction manager. It gives you the opportunity to gain a university-level qualification and is eligible for a grant from the CITB grants scheme

You’ll study a number of modules including:

  • skills for work-based higher education
  • construction technologies
  • science and materials
  • personal learning and thinking skills
  • site surveying
  • construction management
  • law and contracts
  • environmental technologies
  • project management

Optional modules include:

  • building services
  • sustainable construction
  • computer aided design (CAD)
  • learning from professional courses
  • facilities management for construction managers
  • history of architecture
  • advanced materials

Construction Management Higher Apprenticeship Level 5


2 or 3 years part-time (flexible option available)

Entry requirements

You will need one of the following, or an equivalent qualification:

  • one A Level at ‘A2’ at grade C or two at grade E (32 UCAS points)
  • a BTEC Extended Diploma or Subsidiary Diploma
  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

Other combinations of qualifications and experience will also be considered, as will Level 3 qualifications not currently listed on the UCAS tariff.

You’ll need to be employed in the construction industry, having completed an Advanced Apprenticeship, or be working at craft level and wanting to progress to a technician or management role.

We would expect students to be working at Level 2 or above in English Language and Maths.

If you are a mature learner returning to the industry with appropriate qualifications or experience, you are welcome to apply.

Teaching & assessment

All programme modules are delivered and assessed through a combination of blended learning and work-based project activity. 


There is a clear and specific employer demand for successful apprentices.

This work-based programme is built around the Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Construction Operations Management which includes guaranteed progression opportunities to higher work-based qualifications such as our Construction Management Degree Apprenticeship Level 6.
