Construction Skills (Level 1) - Full-time

Course outline

This course is perfect if you have no previous construction knowledge and you want to find out what’s involved in the industry.

You’ll learn a variety of construction trades including plumbing, brickwork, carpentry/joinery, painting and decorating, wall and floor tiling and plastering. This is a good foundation for further development of your skills at the next level. You’ll get help in deciding which path you should take through our dedicated and experienced tutors who will teach you about the jobs and careers available.

You can expect to gain some basic skills in a number of areas in order to progress on to further study in a more specialist area.

This course is based at the Basford Hall Campus.

Qualification

City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma om Construction Skills

Duration

1 year

Level Level 1
Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 3-1 (D-G), including English Language and Maths at Grade 3-1 (D-G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an Initial Assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1.

Teaching & assessment

You’ll complete a range of practical assessments and cover a number of common themes such as working with machinery and tools, health  and safety on a site and working in a team and with customers.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College on a Level 2 Diploma in a more specialist area such as painting and decorating, plastering or bricklaying.
