Design BA (Hons) Top-Up Degree - Full or Part-time

Course outline

If you already have an HND or foundation degree this course allows you to top up to a full BA (Hons) in Design with just one further year of study (or two years on a part-time basis).

You can specialise in your chosen pathway:

  • design
  • design (fashion)
  • design (graphics)

The course suits students from the following specialist areas: graphic design, fashion, or design. It combines practical studio work in your specialist design area with contextual and theoretical modules. Specialist studio areas are available for studio practice and you’ll have access to supporting workshops.

There is a shifting emphasis from group and studio/workshop teaching in semester one to individual tutorials in individual spaces in semester two.

The programme promotes an enquiring, creative and challenging approach towards your work. It encourages the belief that designers have independent thoughts, feelings, reactions
and attitudes which they need to externalise and visualise within theoretical work and practical design practice.

Core modules include:

  • research and academic skills
  • specialist studio practice
  • contemporary issues in design
  • Pathway modules include:
  • practice-led research
  • advanced studio practice
