Creative Writing Comp

Course outline

Improve your skills in creative writing including prose, storytelling techniques and novel writing/structure. Enhance and further your knowledge of the e-publishing environment including marketing, social media and blogging. In addition, you will build confidence when presenting and reading work in public.

The course includes:

  • Creative Writing II 
  • Formatting documents 
  • How do readers read? 
  • Reviewing your peers 
  • Avoiding exposition
  • Prose styles
  • Honing metaphors and avoiding cliché 
  • Descriptive language
  • Exploiting genre
  • Poetry, poetry recital and song lyrics

  • Presentation techniques
  • Reading to the public
  • Reading your work on camera (Periscope training) 
  • Blogging
  • Free promotion sites 
  • Status/Tweet Creation 
  • Developing, creating and writing a 2000 word story for inclusion in a new Central College anthology 
  • Celebration event
