Course outline

Perfect if you have built some foundation knowledge in hairdressing techniques and want to venture into professional colouring and styling.

You’ll learn how to colour and lighten hair, use chemicals safely and carry out skin tests to spot reactions. You’ll learn how to perm and neutralise hair, relax hair and you’ll cover the theory behind hairdressing and hair colouring.

You can expect hands-on practical learning in one of our well-equipped salon environments. You will work alongside hair and beauty students picking up tricks of the trade as you go and you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your work in an end of year hair show. You’ll demonstrate your skills through practical and theorybased assignments to make sure you have a full understanding of the complexities of hair colouring. As part of your course, you will also be required to obtain work experience.

You can study this course at either the Beeston Campus or Clarendon Campus.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) (Functional Skills L1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills L2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above.

Progression

Choose to follow with our Level 3 Advanced Diploma programme in Hairdressing or into employment in a salon or as an Apprentice.
