Independent Living Pathway (SEND) (Lifeskills) — Full-time
Course outline
If you are on the milestone continuum 5 to 8 with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and have high support needs, this course could help improve your confidence and independent living skills.
You will follow a creative and varied programme where reading, writing and number skills are embedded and practised in a variety of contexts.
Areas of learning include:
- Workplace skills
- Following instructions
- Health and safety
- Health and fitness
- Self-awareness
- Getting on with other people
- Cooking
- Exploring art and music
- Volunteering
- Looking after yourself and your home
- Using public transport
There is also comprehensive enrichment elements built into the programme and an opportunity for some students to undertake a work experience placement or supported internship.
This course will be held at the Arthur Mee Centre in Stapleford for the first term and will then move to the brand new SLDD centre at our Basford campus in January 2025.

| Entry requirements | There are no formal entry requirements. You will need to attend a guidance interview to find the most appropriate programme to meet your individual needs. All applicants with support needs will be assessed to ensure we are able to provide an appropriate and effective support package for you to access the College and the Lifeskills programme. We would expect for you to have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) issued by relevant local authority to support your needs. |

| Additional information | The programme is fully supported and run in small groups. It endeavours to provide a positive and rewarding experience for each learner. You can read more about how we support our learners here. As the year progresses you will be taken out of College on visits and activities which may incur a very small cost. We also runs various social clubs that you can join to increase your confidence and enhance your independent living skills outside of normal college times.
