Course outline
Learn how to develop your business brand through social media marketing.
Understand the needs of your online audience and business customers. Identify the value you can bring to users and how to grow your following. This course will explore a variety of social media platforms and their benefits for users. You will gain an understanding of market needs and how to plan a marketing strategy to optimise your business products/ services to increase sales.
The course is suitable for anyone with a business idea or a small business wanting to increase their online reach.
On this course, you will learn to:
- Set targets to define social media marketing goals
- Create a social media marketing strategy
- Identify the appropriate social media platforms for a target market
- Plan a digital marketing calendar to track and manage campaigns
- Generate content to engage and build an audience
- Analyse valuable data from social media channels
- Explore online safety and guidelines for using social media for business.
You will achieve objectives by taking part in group activities, completing written activities, online quizzes and other interactive activities both during the session and by completing independent learning activities in your own time.
Community classes are first steps into learning for many adults, enabling them to find out more about a subject of interest in a welcoming, inclusive local venue.
From September 2024, funding changes mean that courses primary aim is to support students into further education or employment opportunities (paid or voluntary). If students wish to continue studying the same subject on a leisure basis, it may be possible to set up full cost courses, subject to tutor and room availability.

Entry requirements | You must be aged 19+ and have a good standard of English as you will be required to complete a short workbook with the help of your tutor. |
Teaching & assessment | Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be required to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and encouraged to set your own personal targets as part of this course. |
Progression | There may be opportunities to progress onto other courses both in the community and at Nottingham College sites. The course tutor can discuss appropriate opportunities if you wish to further your learning in this subject area. Students will have the opportunity to access external Careers Guidance to aid their next steps.
