Course outline

This course is perfect if you enjoy gaming and want to learn the technical side to creating computer games and other specialist software.

You’ll learn core units including: PC systems, networking and communication and employability skills for IT. Plus, you will study a wide range of specialised IT units which might include computer system architecture, object orientated programming, games story design, computer animation and developing computer games.

You can expect great exposure to all things software development and games related, with units assessed through assignments during the two years. The course will be equivalent to 3 full A Levels, so will enable you to progress onto degree level study.

This course is based at the Clarendon Campus.

Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT Software and Games

Duration

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grade 9-4 (A*-C) or Functional Skills level 2 in English and maths or a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and maths GCSE grades 9-4 (A*-C).

Progression

Choose to follow with further studies or a foundation degree in computing or a degree in computer science, games programming or games concept design. Computing students move into exciting and varied careers. You could also go on to start a career as a web designer, software designer or software engineer.
