IT - Technologies (Level 3)


Course outline

This course can help you on the path towards gaining a career in computer technical support and will give you more advanced knowledge.

The course will help you to understand the role of technical support in the workplace and help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to undertake this role.

The course is largely practical with lots of hands-on computer work such as:

  • Customer support provision for the ICT professional
  • Networking principles
  • Maintain ICT equipment and systems
  • Install, configure and integrate networked hardware and software
  • ICT systems and network management
  • Business concepts
  • Creative problem solving

English and maths - skills for your future
Employers and universities really value skills in English and maths. So, building on your existing knowledge of these subjects will help you prepare for your future career or further study.

Entry requirements
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 to 4/A* to C, including English Language and maths at Grade 9 to 4/A* to C); or
  • A relevant L2 vocational qualification plus English Language and maths at GCSE Grade 9 to 4/A* to C

Functional Skills Level 2 will be accepted as an equivalent to GCSE Grade 9 to 4/A* to C.

Teaching & assessment

This course will be assessed by completing a number of practical assignments graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. There are no external exams, except for Functional Skills.

  • City and Guilds Level 4 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
  • Work within the IT industry
