Course outline

Perfect if you love animals and want to learn and understand more about how to ensure they are well looked after and cared for.

You’ll learn about all aspects of animal care such as feeding and nutrition, grooming, how to handle them safely and carefully and about various professions relating to animal care, such as veterinary science, farming, breeding and the equestrian industry, to name a few.

You can expect to learn in our dedicated animal care facility and take full advantage of our links with animal organisations such as Stonebridge City Farm, the RSPCA and Cats Protection. You’ll also progress your literacy and numeracy skills whilst gaining a qualification to recognise your achievement.

This course is based at the Basford Hall Campus.

City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Land Based Studies.

Duration

1 year

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 3-1 (D-G), including English Language and Maths at Grade 3-1 (D-G) or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an Initial Assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1.

Progression

Choose to follow with a Level 2 Animal Science course at Nottingham College and after further study go on to a career in a zoo, animal charity, a veterinary nurse, groomer or animal welfare officer.
