Course outline

This course is designed for those who lead a team of internal quality assurance staff. You’ll be able to develop your skills, gain underpinning  knowledge and demonstrate competence in the workplace to help you progress in your career.

The course consists of the following units:

  • unit 4: understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment
  • unit 5: internally assure the quality of assessment 
  • unit 6: plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

Leading Internal Qualify Assurance of the Assessment Process and Practice OCR Certificate Level 4

Entry requirements

You will need a relevant Level 3 qualification plus GCSEs in English Language and Maths at Grade 9-4 (A*-C). 

You’ll need to be aged 19+, managing and monitoring a small assessment team who are assessing candidates each undertaking a QCF accredited qualification. You’ll also need to access a qualified internal verifier (IV) in your own subject area. 

Teaching & assessment

You’ll be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, professional discussion and observations. Assessment will take place in your workplace and you’ll have up to one year to complete a portfolio of evidence. 


You could progress on to the External Quality Assurers Award. Career options include teachers, trainers and assessors.
