Course outline

This course will cover a range of sewing skills to enable you to work on a variety of projects making bags, gifts and accessories.

You will use patterns and templates to make the projects in addition to customising these to suit your own requirements and also learn how to draft your own patterns.

Entry requirements

None, however, you will be required to complete a work book, so must be able to complete written work as well as the practical element of the course.

Due to funding rules, you may only enrol on ONE NCFE course for level 1 in each academic year.

Teaching & assessment

Tutors will give regular verbal and written feedback. You will be encouraged to set your own personal targets, as well as completing the NCFE workbook with the help of the tutor.  

Progression

By attending the course you will have increased your knowledge, skills and understanding to help you move on and take up further opportunities open to you.

Your tutor will discuss progression opportunities with you at the final session as part of the course evaluation. These may include other community courses, employability skills courses, volunteering opportunities and progression onto other Nottingham College courses.

Additional information

You will need to bring a basic sewing kit including scissors, pins, tailors chalk, tape measure and threads. You will also be expected to bring materials to make each project. Each week you will be told the requirements for the following week and you will be able to spend as much or little as you would like on materials – previous students have obtain materials from local charity shops whereas others have purchased more expensive fabrics of their choice.
