Course outline
The HNC Public Services is designed to help develop the skills needed in public service management, both uniformed and non-uniformed.
These include, for example, HM Armed Forces, Revenues and Customs, the Emergency Services, Prison Service and the charity and voluntary sectors.
A career in policing is a popular route for candidates, who choose to top-up this HNC course with a second year HND before moving onto a full degree in their final year with a particular focus or specialism.
The emphasis of this course is on developing leadership, team-building, communication and organisation skills as well as building a solid awareness of the public services landscape.
The course will provide insight and understanding into the wide range of roles within public services, recognising the importance of collaboration at all levels and to equip students with knowledge and understanding of multi-facetted societies and organisation, cross-cultural issues, and an appreciation of diversity and core values. Your study will consider the governmental, sociological and psychological aspects of a career in public services, and how they relate to professional practice.

You should possess (or expect to achieve) a full Level 3 qualification in the public service or related subject areas. Other combinations of qualifications and experience will also be considered, as will Level 3 qualifications not currently listed on the UCAS tariff. We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy. Mature applicants with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications are welcome to apply. |
