Course outline

The course will cover how to alter garments using the correct techniques.  You will learn to understand body measurements, how bought garments are made, how to repair zips and faults, how to recycle and restyle unwanted garments and use trimmings, fabric and other sewing techniques to enhance existing garments.  You will try garment dyeing and printing to rejuvenate old clothes.  The course will also cover enterprise skills to enable you to market, price and sell your craft items.

Entry requirements

This course is for you if you have already completed NCFE Creative Crafts at Level 1. This course is not suitable for beginners, as previous experience and knowledge of skills and techniques is a course requirement. You will be required to complete a work book, and so you must be able to complete written work as well as practical element of the course. 

Teaching & assessment

Assessment is ongoing, you will receive verbal and written formative feedback as the course progresses.


Other art, craft and textiles courses.

Additional information

Sewing machines and other large equipment is supplied but you should aim to supply and bring to the first session your own basic sewing kit of scissors, pins & needles, and a tape measure (can be bought for about £5).  All other materials and threads etc. for the project need to be supplied by the learner, either from their own wardrobe, vintage clothes, clothes that are too big or small, out of date clothes charity shops or other stores. We also have stock of trim, dress patterns and fabric to practice on at The Textile Workshop. PLEASE BRING OLD JEANS OR A GARMENT THAT NEEDS ALTERING TO THE FIRST CLASS.
