Site Carpentry (Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma) — Full-time

Course outline

This course is perfect if you want a career in the industry and hold a lower level qualification already, or are already employed and require an industry-recognised qualification to add to your portfolio.

You’ll learn a number of advanced carpentry and joinery techniques and all about carrying out first fix flooring and roofing, building stairwells, organising, planning and pricing work, site health and safety regulations and a range of second fix operations.

You can expect to learn in our state-of-the-art construction centre where tutors will guide you through the different units and build your understanding of the carpentry and joinery industry.

Aged 19 or over?

If you don't already hold a Level 3 qualification (equivalent to at least two A Levels, or a Level 3 vocational qualification), you can now study this course fully funded!

The Government’s new Free Courses for Jobs programme has created new opportunities for adults, aged 19 and over, to access fully funded full-time learning.

If you are aged 16-18 without having achieved a Level 3 qualification, you will also be eligible for full funding.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have completed a Level 2 vocational qualification in a related field and have gained 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grades 9–4 (A*–C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.

For applicants aged 19+, relevant industry experience may be considered.

Teaching & assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at college perhaps into a management qualification within the construction sector, or into employment as a carpenter or joiner.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
