Uniformed Protective Services (Level 3) — Full-time

Course outline

This course is perfect if you are looking to pursue a career in public services but if you’re not quite sure what path you want to take yet.

Examples of units studied may include:

  • Citizenship and diversity
  • Behaviours and discipline in the uniformed public services
  • Physical preparation, health and wellbeing
  • Teamwork, leadership and communication in the uniformed public services
  • Global affairs and the media in uniformed public services
  • Government and protective services
  • Planning for and responding to emergency incidents

You can expect to document your learning through a series of presentations, reports, displays, case studies, practical programmes, assignments, group activities and a portfolio of evidence that is used in support of your final grade.

You must have a keen interest in the services and be willing to take part in physical activity!

Usually, you will study for the Foundation Diploma in year 1 and then top up to the Extended Diploma in year 2.

Entry requirements

You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A*–C), including English Language and Maths – both of these must be grades 9–4 (A*–C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths. You can also gain a place by having a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification with English and Maths GCSE grades 9–4 (A*–C).

Teaching & assessment

Assessment is internal in a theoretical and practical nature.

Progression

Choose to follow with further studies at degree level in a variety of fields, such as social policy, criminology, psychology, social sciences and much more. Career opportunities include Police or Fire and Rescue Service, armed forces, Ambulance Service, NHS, HM Prison Service, HM Revenue & Customs or a career in the Civil Service.
