Recruiting an apprentice


Central College Nottingham provides a free recruitment service for employers looking to take on an apprentice helping to minimise the time and effort spent finding your perfect candidate.

Step 1: Meet with a Member of the Business Engagement Team

We will come out to your business at a time to suit you and will explain about the Apprenticeship Programme in more detail. We will also discuss any grants or incentives that you may be eligible for. If you decide taking on an Apprentice is the right route for your organisation the Recruitment Executive will complete a vacancy form with you in order to ensure you find the perfect Apprentice.

Step 2: Advertising Your Vacancy

We will advertise your vacancy on the National Apprenticeship Service website and on the Apprenticeships section of our website.

Step 3: Pre-Screening Potential Candidates

We will screen all applications for your vacancy. All candidates will be interviewed by telephone and if deemed suitable, invited in for a face to face interview with us. At this stage an application form and assessment testing will be completed and we will determine suitability for your vacancy.

Step 4: Arranging Interviews

All interviews are completed on a slot basis, you determine the day and interview times available and we will fill these slots with high calibre candidates matched to your vacancy. This reduces the pressure on you for recruitment as the necessity for screening CVs’s is eliminated. You will receive an interview schedule along with candidates’ CV’s 24 hours prior to the interviews.

Step 5: Following Interviews

At this point you have selected the most appropriate candidate for your organisation who meet the needs of the job role. When you have offered the role to the candidate and you have a start date for commencement of the apprentice contract, we will arrange for an assessor to sign up the learner on to the agreed Apprenticeship Framework.

Step 6: Employer Aftercare

You will have regular meetings with the Vocational and Functional Skills Assessors to discuss the progression of your Apprentice. You will receive regular update mailers with details of additional services that are available as well as star candidate availability updates. You will be contacted by our impartial analyst at 6, 12 and 18 months during and following the delivery of the Apprenticeship to discuss and ensure you are receiving high standards of delivery.
