Support for students

Int Support

From the moment you arrive at Central College Nottingham to when you leave, you can be sure of the highest standards of care and support.

We appreciate that going to a new country for the first time can be very daunting, particularly for younger students. For this reason we provide a free airport pick-up for all students under the age of 18, and for all students aged 18 or over who are coming to study a course lasting for a full academic year or equivalent.

Once you have notified the International Office in advance of your arrival date and time, we will arrange for a driver to meet you at the airport and take you to the college or directly to your accommodation.

For those aged 18 or over who are either coming to study a shorter programme, or who prefer to find their own way to Nottingham, there are plenty of trains and coach services running between the major UK airports and Nottingham. Details are given in your pre-arrival guide but please ask us if you would like advice on where to find further information. We can also pre-book a taxi for you for an additional charge.

What Will Happen During My First Week at Central College Nottingham?

All international students will receive a 1-2 day Induction Programme. This is an opportunity for you to meet the International Office, meet your course tutors, and find out more about the support available to you. This is when you will officially register at the college and pay your course fees. You will also be given advice on healthcare (including registration with a doctor), safety and security, how to open a bank account, etc. For detailed information on your induction programme please refer to the pre-arrival guidePlease note that attendance during induction is compulsory.

What Type of Support Can I Expect During My Time at Central College Nottingham?

All international students will be allocated a Personal Tutor, who will offer advice and guidance related to your course and discuss your progress with you. The International Office will also offer you support during your time with us.

The International Office is open from Monday to Friday when students can call in and ask for information and advice. As well as general advice, the team offers a range of services including letters to prove student status, help with visa queries, welfare support/help with problems, information on registering for local services and support with applying to university.

We have Chinese, Vietnamese and Spanish speaking staff within the team.

Outside College opening hours emergency assistance is offered via a 24-hour helpline.

Are There Any Social Activities?

The International Office organises some social activities throughout the year, such as a welcome party, one or two trips to cities or tourist attractions and an awards presentation. Examples of trips organised include: a trip to York; a visit to Cadbury World; a local trip to the Galleries of Justice.

Students are given a leaflet in their Welcome Pack showing planned social activities, including any costs and the number of places available. As a guide, most trips/activities are fee to participate in but a £10 deposit is required to secure a place(refundable on the day to students who attend).

Will I Get Help with Applying to University?

Yes - we have a dedicated Progression Advisor for international students, who works closely with all students who intend to apply to university to identify the best university choices to meet their needs and ability.

Support with applying through UCAS and writing a personal statement is offered through tutorials., with individual appointments offered for personalised advice and guidance.

We also organise a University Fair each October when we invite the most popular universities that recognise our Foundation Programmes to come in and talk to students

How Can My Parents Contact the College?
