Learner Achievement Coach Support

Learner Achievement Coaches (LACs) work with a targeted caseload of learners, who may be at risk of not achieving their qualification.

At risk categories include:

  • Previously NEET
  • Young Carer/Young Parent
  • LAC / In Care / Leaving Care
  • School action/ plus
  • Late starter
  • U18 Living Independently
  • CAF/Child Protection Plan
  • Vulnerable Student Bursary
  • External Agency Referral
  • Home educated
  • YOT involvement / Criminal Justice System
  • Suffering from Anxiety/Stress
  • Alternative Provision
  • Recently Homeless

When a referral is made for LAC support, the LAC will arrange a meeting with the student to discuss how best to support them utilising a number of intervention strategies, including:

  • Transition visits
  • 1:1 support
  • In-class support
  • Signposting to internal teams and external agencies
  • Liaising with involved agencies
  • Working with tutors
  • Working with Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s)

The interventions can be as often as needed, and the LAC team work hard to promote independence in learners, giving them skills which they can use far beyond their time at college.

If you, or someone you are supporting, fits into one of these categories, then contact the LAC team at to find out about what support is available.
