A university experience with a difference!

A group of more than 40 Central students experienced an unusual taste of university life as part of the Staffordshire University ‘Great Minds’ bus tour at Central’s Beeston Centre recently.

The group was made up of full-time GCSE students and their fellow students from the College’s Choices provision. Choices offers specialist course options for home-educated students, plus school pupils in years 9 – 12 who are referred by their school.

The ‘cinema-style’ introduction to the university included an immersive virtual reality experience of the university’s science labs, law courts, practice operating theatre and crime scene.

The top deck of the bus was fitted out as typical student accommodation to give a flavour of what student life could be like on a university campus.

We hope that this early taste of what university can offer will encourage the students to aim for higher education in the future, by helping inform their progression choices. Our students got a chance to talk to current Student Ambassadors about university life and find out about a huge range of undergraduate courses. The university did a great job and it was a valuable experience for our students.
