Academies join forces for sports challenge

Academy Games

More than 120 students from South Nottinghamshire Academy (in Radcliffe-on-Trent) and Top Valley Academy (in Nottingham) took part in the annual Central Academy Trust Sports Day at Central College Nottingham’s Clifton Centre on Friday 24 June.

Central College Sport students and staff joined PE staff from the academies, who are both sponsored by the Central Academy Trust, to ensure that the fun and closely fought encounter was a huge success.

The morning’s team events saw boys’ and girls’ teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 competing in football, handball and rounders, with an athletics competition in the afternoon. In the end Top Valley narrowly came out on top and they received a trophy from Central’s Vice Principal (Curriculum) Yultan Mellor.

This is the second year we’ve brought students from the two academies together for a sports day and it was a great success. Our own Central Sport students gained valuable experience of working with young people and did a great job of supervising the individual events.

Heads from both academies came along to support their students and cheer them on.

Our pupils were thrilled to win of course, but there was some great sportsmanship from all the young men and women at the event.

- Sean Kelly, Top Valley Headteacher

Our pupils really enjoyed the whole day and it was good for them to be able to get to know some of the students on Central’s Sport courses.
