Our ESOL staff and students were thinking of others this Easter, as they held a special bake-off to raise money for charity. The competition involved students on English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses and staff baking 11 impressive cakes. They raised just shy of £65 for Cancer Research UK by selling them off at our Maid Marian Way Centre.
The eleven entries were judged by ‘Mary and Paul’ (Curriculum Manager for ESOL, Jill Murgatroyd and Head of School for Lifelong Learning, Dave Buckley). The winner was Beata Rzeszowska, who lives in the Meadows and is originally from Poland. She won over the judges with her interesting and delicious cake which had a mixture of spinach, cream cheese and pomegranate seeds. Beata was presented with a trophy at the event.
This is the first year that students got involved in the bake-off, after a successful staff event last year.
