College staff in the capital for awards final

The awards ceremony

Representatives from Central College Nottingham attended the ‘Most Wanted Awards’ on Monday 7 September where the college’s hair and beauty salon was short-listed for a national award in the grand final of the national hairdressing competition.

Salon Central on Wheeler Gate was selected as a finalist in the Innovation category of the awards alongside fellow industry professionals. They joined a host of nominees at the iconic Natural History Museum for the awards ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall.

Over six weeks during the summer of 2014, the College converted the old Co-op Travel shop on Wheeler Gate into a fully functioning hair and beauty training salon that is also open to the public. The salon was completed in August 2014 and was officially opened by renowned industry hairdresser Beverley C (formerly Cobella) MBE in November last year.

Alison Asbury, Head of School responsible for Hair and Beauty courses at Central said:

“Although we didn’t win we’re so proud to have been shortlisted for an award by Creative HEAD magazine. Making a training salon into a viable commercial enterprise, then having it recognised nationally by our industry colleagues is testament to the hard work put in by our tutors.”

Presented by the award-winning hairdressing industry publication Creative HEAD, 2015 marked the fifteenth anniversary of the Most Wanted Awards. The 11 sought-after titles – individually sponsored by top hairdressing and business brands – recognised excellence across a multitude of disciplines from business acumen and customer service to creative skill and technical ability.
