News: College students celebrated at awards

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

Two Nottingham College students were named runners-up at the Nottingham Post Education Awards.

Engineering student Matthew Taylor and A Level student Horem Gul attended the awards at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Wednesday 29 November.

Matthew was crowned Young Inventor of the Year” at the annual Made in the Midlands annual awards in October. Matthew is studying a Level 3 BTEC Extended in Engineering at the College’s Highfields centre. His invention was an acoustic speaker for a smartphone because he saw the need to use a speaker outside without an electrical supply.

Horem achieved amazing GCSE grades back in August despite only arriving in Nottingham from Pakistan a year ago – she grasped English from watching Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice! Horem moved to Nottingham with her mum and younger sister to join her father who has been working in the UK for the past 10 years. Ambitious Horem wants to become a psychologist and is now studying A‑levels at High Pavement after achieving two A and three B grades (one in English).

The College would like to congratulate Matthew and Horem for their fantastic achievement.
