Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness Week Large

Students at Central College Nottingham have been supporting Deaf Awareness Week (2-8 May) by attending a series of activities and promotions at college sites to raise awareness of the condition.

Members of the College’s Deaf Access team visited sites to teach students some basic British Sign Language (BSL), using ear defenders to demonstrate what it is like to have a hearing impairment and demonstrating how difficult lip reading can be.

Pictured are international students Mario Quiala (in foreground) and Erik Curado (in background) with Deaf team staff member Catherine McDonald trying out the ear defenders at the Beeston Centre.
