News: International Student Success

Please note: This news story may contain information that is no longer current or up to date.

Central College Nottingham recently hosted a special awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of more than 125 of its international students. Students and staff joined together to attend the annual International Awards and Summer Ball at Nottingham’s 4-star Park Plaza hotel on 28 June.

Students from International Foundation courses in Accounting, Architecture, Business, Economics & Management, Engineering and Science all received an award for successful completion of their course. The number of students achieving a Distinction grade this year at Central was once again very high, with top grades of up to 99% going to students from Vietnam and China.

The evening was also a chance for the students to have fun and relax, with a fun photo booth and a roulette wheel with plenty of (pretend) money to play with as well as a disco.

The International Foundation programme allows students to qualify for university study in the UK. A good number of Central’s IF students will progress to the University of Nottingham to study bachelor’s degrees, with others choosing Bath, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, York, Reading and Edinburgh.

We are so proud of all our hard-working International Foundation students. The vast majority of them are progressing to UK universities now, so it was great to recognise and reward all their hard work before they leave us.

Shaf Hussain — Head of International

One of the students wrote this statement to his economics teacher: I got a really amazing economics result this year and I really want to say thank you to you. Thank you for your help when I have had questions and thank you for your patience. I feel very lucky to have you as my economics teacher and I really learned much knowledge that I hadn’t known in China. I think to some extent you really have changed me a lot. Because of your teaching and your ways of teaching, I gradually realised my personal value (I was a little self- abased before) and became more and more confident.

There is no doubt that I grew up a lot. What’s more, you sparked my interest in economics, which is absolutely a beautiful and useful subject. Anyway, I will always remember you and if I come back to Nottingham, I will visit you. We will keep in touch.”
