News: Nottingham College launches Public Consultation
Nottingham College moves a step closer towards its new £58m landmark City Hub campus development with the launch of its public consultation exercise today.
The new City Hub campus building is set to be a landmark addition to Nottingham’s skyline, as viewed from the south of the city centre. It forms part of an ambitious £250m Southern Gateway regeneration scheme, spearheaded by Nottingham City Council involving the redevelopment of the intu Broadmarsh Centre, the rebuild of the Broadmarsh bus station and car park, as well as the remodelling of road and pedestrian routes in the area.
The new campus will provide high quality college and community facilities, together with a new business hub. This will encourage new business start-ups, better collaboration between the college and employers and will provide the wider community with improved training and skills resources. In addition, the campus will house a new performing arts centre, student retail space, café and training restaurant and bar.
The building will occupy six storeys in total and the design, led by architects Bond Bryan, will complement the surroundings and pay homage to the area’s industry heritage.

As an architect, it’s important to capture and understand the heritage of a particular site and having grown up in Nottingham, I’m familiar with the stories of Broadmarsh and Narrow Marsh. The opportunity to transform an area that was once synonymous with poverty and limited life chances into a centre that will help unlock the potential of tens of thousands of young people in the coming years, is a very rewarding prospect. The City Hub project has an ability to create an exciting destination for local businesses and education to mix, providing real benefit to skills and employment in the region. It is an exciting time for Nottingham and I’m extremely proud to be part of it.

The site will offer a new green space as a local community facility and the design of the public realm aspects of the site are being led by Nottingham City Council, in collaboration with local residents and the wider community.
The City Hub campus is a fundamental part of Nottingham College’s ambitions for the future. Nottingham College aims to be a new and very different college for Nottingham – established as a result of a successful merger between New College Nottingham and Central College Nottingham.
Setting out to change the face of Further Education, the College is working to ensure the qualifications it provides and the students it produces are fit for industry – with the ability to play a full and meaningful role in the growth of Nottingham’s economy.
Nottingham jobs are expected to grow by around 7% over the next three years. A growing economy needs skilled and motivated workers and Nottingham College recognises that some things need to change. It’s begun an ambitious transformation programme to focus its offer on addressing the skills demands of employers and the region’s key sectors now and in the future, as well as creating modern, fit-for-purpose college facilities to give students the best possible start.

The City Hub, and the services it will house, will provide real benefits to employers and students. When we put this Hub together with the College’s plans for its other Centres for Excellence across the city, we will be one of the biggest and best-resourced training and skills institutions in the country.

Public consultation gets underway today and residents and businesses in the area are being invited to dedicated consultation sessions being held at Nottingham Contemporary on Friday 10th November 2017.

Or, they can come along to the public sessions at Nottingham Contemporary on 10th November between either 10.30am – 12noon or 2pm – 5pm
