Student case study: Emma Bidmead (Beauty Therapy)

The College has helped me to achieve this by making me aware of the career opportunities within beauty. They gave me the support and the confidence to go through with it

Emma Bidmead - Level 3 Beauty Therapy
Emma Bidmead

When Emma visited a cruise liner in Southampton on a College trip, little did she know that less than three months later she’d be swapping the salon at Central for a job travelling the world on a cruise ship.

During her studies, Emma applied for a job with on-board spa company Steiner and was offered a position. After finishing the course she began her induction programme in London, then travelled to Baltimore in the USA to start her job as a massage therapist. She eventually boarded the Carnival Pride ship and travelled round the Caribbean islands, the Bahamas and the USA.

As part of the group of students visiting a cruise ship earlier in the year, Emma got exclusive access to see the on-board spa facilities, which are run by Steiner, and talked to current staff about what life at sea is all about.

Emma tells us:

I heard about Steiner from my tutor during my Level 2 course at Central, then Steiner’s Recruitment Manager came into College and did a presentation about working on cruise liners.

Also, the ship I visited was amazing, so I applied and I am now a massage therapist on a cruise ship!

The College has helped me to achieve this by making me aware of the career opportunities within beauty. They gave me the support and the confidence to go through with it! My tutor Becky especially really encouraged me with my personal ambition to work on cruise ships.
