Automotive Choices

Central College is the region’s most established provider of automotive training and we are the second largest automotive training provider in the country (IMI 2013).

Our city-centre facility on London Road is purpose built for the automotive industry, with fully-equipped workshops containing all the latest diagnostic equipment and technology with access to some of the best training around. Our automotive lecturing teams are trained up to manufacturer Master Technician level.

IMIAL Special Automotive Programme in Vehicle Technology

Aimed at learners who prefer and respond to ‘hands-on’ learning. This course has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest learners.

IMIAL Level 1/Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance

These courses provide the very best foundation to follow a career path within the motor industry. It is designed to give motivated 14-16 year olds a chance to train and learn all about motor vehicles. The courses involve training and working on vehicles within a purpose built, modern training centre environment.

Hours: 

  • Level 1: 304 GLH
  • Level 2: 336 GLH

IMIAL Level 1/Level 2 Certificate in Service and Maintenance Engineering

The content of these qualifications has been designed to give the learners a broad understanding of the engineering sector. The mandatory, core and self development units help build this broad understanding, whilst the specialist units will allow for a limited amount of specialist Motor Vehicle based knowledge and practical skills to be gained.

  • Level 1: 214 GLH
  • Level 2: 228 GLH

IMIAL Entry Level 3 Award in Cycle Maintenance and Repair

Aimed at learners who wish to develop understanding and skills in the servicing, repair and maintenance of cycles. The skills and knowledge acquired can be used for career progression into the cycle maintenance and repair sector. This qualification can also suit individuals with a keen leisure interest in cycles.

Hours: 25 GLH

EAL Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance

This qualification covers the intermediate knowledge and understanding of cycle maintenance, including safe working practices, customer service requirements and the principles of frame technology, headsets, gear systems, brake systems, hubs, wheel truing, tyres and tubes.

Hours: 150 GLH
