Construction is more than just making things. These practical courses cover anything from bricklaying and carpentry/joinery to painting and decorating, plastering, plumbing and even horticulture. Our high quality courses are intended to appeal to students who want to study a practical, trade related subject with the intention of seeking further training and/or employment in the building industry.
This qualification is intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. Learners can develop a more ‘hands on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area(s). The skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for work through real or simulated work situations and may contribute to preparing them for working life beyond education. This course can focus on either construction or horticulture units.

This qualification has been designed to develop learners skills and knowledge at level 1 in a variety of different trades and prepare them to enter the construction industry or take further qualifications in their chosen trade.
The learner will cover knowledge and skills in:
- Handle and store construction materials
- and components
- Fix construction components
- Mix construction materials
- Cut, lay and fix construction components
- Apply finishing materials
- Set out for construction components.
Hours: Approximately 16 hours per week for 1 week offered on a Year 11 infill basis.
This qualification has been developed to provide an engaging and stimulating introduction to the construction industry. It includes units that form the fundamental knowledge, skills and understanding of construction technology and design.
