We offer many childcare, health and social care and supported learning courses and whether you choose a further education programme (from Level 1 to Level 3), or a higher education (university-level) course, you can be sure we’ll help prepare you for a career in this rewarding industry.
Childcare and Early Years
If you want to work with children and young people, our childcare and early years courses will help you to get ahead in this rewarding sector.
Whether you want to work in a nursery or Children’s Centre, or become a nanny or a teaching assistant in a school, having a recognised qualification will set you apart from other applicants.
Our further education courses range from Level 1 to Level 3 and include a mix of classroom learning, practical assessments and visits and placements.
Level 3 full-time courses will lead to Early Years Educator status, which is the new gold standard for early years workers.
Most courses include work experience and we have links with local schools and nurseries. You can also study childcare courses through the apprenticeship route in a workplace.
After your course you could apply for a job in industry or progress to a higher level course, for example the Foundation Degree in Children’s and Young People’s Services which we offer at Central.

Health and Social courses
Whether you want to work with young children or adults; people with disabilities or health problems; or those needing other types of support, our health and social care courses will give you the knowledge and experience to carve out a career in the growing and rewarding care sector.
We offer further education courses in health and social care at our Maid Marian Way Centre and you can study full-time or through an apprenticeship.
If you’re already employed in this sector, you can improve your job prospects at Central by building on your existing qualifications using your experiences and knowledge to gain a formal qualification.
Most courses include work experience and we have links with local schools, nurseries, hospitals, voluntary organisations and care homes. Our teaching staff have extensive and current experience in the health, social care and early years sectors and offer a supportive learning environment.
After completing your course you can choose to go into employment with the skills you’ve learned, or progress onto a university-level course.
The course is ideal if you’re currently working in the early years sector and wish to progress to work as a senior practitioner.
